| Riverside Park Summer Festival (7/6/68): First performance. "Big Daddy" Grant on drums. Mostly cover set of Peter, Paul, and Mary and Dylan tunes. Pretty raw sounding. | The Cellar (11/15/68): Return of the "polished" Sugar & Ames. 8 song set as opening act. Lot of PP and M, still. Debuted 3 original songs including "Forest Glen". | ||
| The Cellar (11/29/68): Start of regular sets at the Cellar. Still opening act. Thanksgiving weekend, not much turnout. | The Cellar (12/6/68): Another of the opening act sets. Rebecca tries lead on "Gaslamp". | ||
| The Cellar (12/20/68): Pre-Xmas show. First S & A headline night. 14 song set including debut of "Dime Store Candy". | The Cellar (1/25/69): Sugar & Ames gets Saturday night headline after Xmas break. Reworked "Dime Store Candy" gets big ovation. Greta tries lead on "Gaslamp". | ||
| Copley's (1/31/69): Stepping up and out. First Copley's show. Opening act for Tea Set. Only play 6 song set but "Dime Store Candy" and "Forest Glen" are big winners. | The Cellar (2/15/69): Regular headliner shows at the Cellar now. Getting good crowds. | ||
| Private Party (2/27/69): Jessie O'Toole hires S & A for a bash at the VFW Hall near East Glenville. About 75 people and good exposure. | The Cellar (3/1/69): Bi-weekly headline shows continue. Regular following starting to show at the Cellar. Crowd sings along with "Dime Store Candy". | ||
| The Cellar (3/15/69): Last show before "Big Daddy" leaves. Stress is evident in this set. Only 9 songs played. | The Cellar (5/1/69): Back in business at the Cellar with Callie Young on drums. Unsure management gives Sugar & Ames a dead Thursday night slot. Callie knocks 'em dead. | ||
| The Cellar (5/10/69): Cellar is sold on new S & A lineup. Back to Saturday night headlining. Callie gets lead on "Gaslamp" and nails it. | The Cellar (5/24/69): Biggest crowd to date. Place is packed and 14 song set not enough for fans. Called back out for 2 song impromptu encore. | ||
| Copley's (5/30/69): Copley's heard the rumor mill and has S & A back as a Friday night opening act. Debut of "Love, Rain, or Me" with Gary/Rebecca duet and crowd is into it. First press coverage in area papers is favorable. | The Cellar (6/7/69): Cellar is turning people away. S & A comes prepared for an encore and needs it. Regular crowd starting to follow the band now. | ||
| Copley's (6/14/69): Copley's wants regular headline shows now too. Bigger place, still fills up and crowd dances and sings along to "Dime Store Candy". | Mad Hatter's (Latham) (6/17/69): First out of area show. Club in Latham tries Sugar & Ames out as a headliner. Not huge attendance but fans enjoy show, esp. "Love, Rain, or Me". | ||
| Copley's (6/20/69): Back to Copley's for another big turnout. Band pushes the St. Peter's Garden folk show hard. | The Cellar (6/21/69): Cellar still loves S & A. Promotes big St. Peter's show set for 6/28. | ||
| St. Peter's Garden (6/28/69): The defining Sugar & Ames show. Lots of publicity, beautiful day, huge turnout and the band nails the set perfectly. Callie proves how much she brings to the band. S & A comes back for 3 impromptu songs at end of the event including a one-time-only performance of "You Keep Me Hangin' On". | Rotterdam Independence Jam (7/4/69): Back to back outdoor shows. S & A is lost in the middle of a 5 band show but still stirs the crowd with "Love, Rain, or Me". | ||
| The Cellar (7/19/69): A month off from the Cellar and the tight confines bother the band. Decent show but not as great as the previous few. | Copley's (7/25/69): Friday night headliner show. Greta feels sick but show goes off well. A lot of familiar faces in the crowd now. | ||
| Mad Hatter's (Latham) (7/26/69): A group of 12 fans make the trek from Schenectady to Latham to support us. It makes all the difference. Greta's voice gives out but the set is great. Standing O from the crowd on "Forest Glen". | Copley's (8/9/69): Saturday night at Copley's. Mostly regulars now, singing along to a pretty standard set. | ||
| Mad Hatter's (Latham) (8/23/69): Latham is sold on S & A. Club wants monthly shows as a headliner. Following starting to build outside of Schenectady. | Riverside Park (8/24/69): Inspired by previous weekend Woodstock experience, S & A finds another gig outdoors. Hot Sunday afternoon and the crowd isn't too into it. Rebecca solos on "Love, Rain, or Me" to mixed reaction. | ||
| Circle Club (Troy) (9/11/69): Band hauls it over to Troy for an experimental set at the Circle Club. It's a rock venue and it shows in the crowd. Good set overall, but not a lot of interest from the Thursday night crowd. | Copley's (9/12/69): Copley's is now filling up like the Cellar did. Band starting to get bored with same old sets, but crowd has their favorites. | ||
| Mad Hatter's (Latham) (9/19/69): September Latham show. Try debuting 2 new songs, "You Want Me" and "Seabreeze" but neither hits with the crowd. | Copley's (9/27/69): Every S & A fan in town shows up it seems. Crowd outsings the band on "Dime Store Candy" and "Love, Rain, or Me". Band tries a new arrangement of "You Want Me" to no avail. | ||
| Mad Hatter's (Latham) (10/10/69): Band is down and not in the mood for back-to-back shows over the weekend. It shows in the set. Crowd, management, and band disappointed. | Copley's (10/11/69): Like the Latham show, not a lot of energy at this one. Sugar & Ames decide to work on new material. | ||
| Copley's (10/25/69): Copley's still wants S & A every other weekend. Band plays the old stuff even as they try to write an all new material set. | Hometown Halloween Concert (10/31/69): Short 5 song set that should have been titled "Sugar & Ames Greatest Hits". Crowd was good but the whole show was assembly lined to fit as many bands as possible. | ||
| Mad Hatter's (Latham) (11/15/69): Three new songs debuted here, and band is 0 for 3. Concern starting to form at Latham club about last few performances. | The Cellar (11/22/69): Return to the Cellar to try to re-ignite things. Crowd packed in and S & A go with a set of all new material. Mixed reviews and many of the crowd are upset not to hear the old standards. No encore. | ||
| Mad Hatter's (Latham) (12/12/69): Band has taken 2 weeks off after bad reviews on new material. S & A go back to old stuff and put on great show in Latham. Great timing, as reporter writes up Sugar & Ames for Albany paper. | Copley's (12/20/69): Two months away from Copley's and pre-Xmas crowd is not huge. Band does good show with traditional material but the heart isn't there. | ||
| Mad Hatter's (Latham) (1/17/70): Big expectations in Latham after Albany write-up. Group doesn't live up to them. Gary lacks usual animation, Callie's high-energy missing. | The Cellar (2/7/70): Almost a month off, then back to the Cellar to regain strength. Chemistry missing from the band and even old standards don't get the interest they used to. Following starting to die off. Regular shows at Copley's and Mad Hatter's both suspended. | ||
| The Cellar (2/27/70): Not a bad show, but not the same group as the summer before. Only "Dime Store Candy" generates any crowd enthusiasm. Newer songs getting little applause. | The Cellar (3/14/70): The end of S & A. Greta almost doesn't show for this one, leaving the band scrambling for a way to work around her. Finally, band comes on 20 minutes late, plays a ten song set to minor applause and exits the Cellar for good. | ||
| Riverside Park Music Festival (9/7/70): The Sugar & Ames reunion. 45 minute, 12 song set including "Blue Jean Lady" and other new material, plus old favorites. Crowd was positive and very into some of the new material but band was out of sync and not fully into the show. Still, a positive note to end the S & A saga. (Set list) | |||
