Love, Rain, or Me is, in some
ways, Sugar & Ames only multi-million seller. Typical of S & A's earlier songs,
this light, airy ballad was always a favorite at Sugar & Ames shows. Its biggest
success occured when Pete Townshend of The Who obtained rights to the song, after hearing
Gary Krajicek perform the song solo at a 1972 UK show. The lyrics were updated in places,
rewritten in others, and the musical score completely changed to create the
rock anthem "Love Reign O'er Me".
This song was originally written by Rebecca Adams based on her own teenage experiences
and told the story of a hot and cold relationship that changed like the springtime weather.
Although Rebecca did not receive a writer's credit for "Love Reign O'er Me" and retains
no rights to either version of the song, her estate still receives royalties on the use
and performance of the song.
