| Forest Glen was one of the more bizarre Sugar & Ames songs. The macabre lyrics play ironically against an infectious, almost sugary, happy melody. The first true collaboration between Rebecca Adams and Gary Krajicek, this song always produced a love-hate reaction from audiences. Originally written by Rebecca Adams in 1966, before the founding of S & A, the first Forest Glen was a happy love song. But the name "Forest Glen" invoked a witchcraft image in the mind of Gary Krajicek and it was rewritten in the early band sessions to be about a spurned lover casting a midnight spell to get back her man. The ironic twist was good, but the witchcraft metaphor didn't quite work, and in the fall of 1968, the final "Forest Glen" was conceived, from the eyes of a young widow sneaking off to the woods to take her own life and be with her lost love. |
